Exploring with Magnets

We spent this week exploring with magnets in Pre K! We collected items and sorted them by magnetic and nonmagnetic, learned which magnets are the strongest, and enjoyed using our wand magnets with metal items.

Week 20 of Pre K- January 22-25, 2019

Week 20 of Pre K
We started our week reading “Snow Globe Family” and made our own snow globes for the hallway! We added writing to go with it, and we talked about what we would do if we lived in a snow globe.
We have been exploring magnets this week! We have read “All About Magnets” and portions of another book “Magnets Pull, Magnets Push”. We have talked about how magnets can use their “force” to push or pull objects that are metal. We did a search around the classroom to find items that are magnetic and items that are not magnetic. We also did a picture sort with magnet wands to test our findings. We tested several types of magnets to see which one was the strongest (our magnet wands are very strong!). Be sure to check the blog this weekend for pictures of our work with this topic.
We have been talking about graphing as part of our Everyday Math programs and have started a daily class graph question. We have practiced recording our findings in several ways: writing our name, putting an X as our answer, tally marks, and coloring in a box to answer the question. We have talked about most, least, and same as well. iWe will continue with graphing next week as well.
We practiced the tricky letter S this week in our Handwriting Without Tears Program, as well as number 5.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Please Note....
**Registration for 2019/2020 Pre K/Kindergarten Year- Registration information will be coming out soon. You DO NOT need to register your child- they are already in our system. We will need to sign them up for a screening appointment with the Kindergarten team that will take place in early May. I will be sending home a questionnaire next week to ask what day & time works best for you. I will then make the appointment for you and let you know what day & time your child will be coming in for screening. This saves a lot of calls to the office! Just to let you know- we will not have Pre K on the screening days- I will be busy screening our incoming Pre K students. Let me know if you have any questions!

December Fun with Gingerbread- PM Group

We had a great time decorating gingerbread cookies and looking for our gingerbread man! We didn't find him, but we loved running around our school trying to find him- lucky for us he left us some cookies of our own. We also loved PJ day!!
